How to Install and Replace Custom Cabinet Handles: A Symphony of Style and Functionality
When it comes to cabinet hardware, custom handles are the virtuoso performers. They have the uncanny ability to elevate your kitchen or bathroom from ordinary to extraordinary. But before you can enjoy their enchanting effects, you need to know how to install and replace them like a maestro.
Tools You’ll Need:
Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on the handle)
Drill (if mounting new handles or repairing old holes)
Drill bit (slightly smaller in diameter than the handle screw)
Measuring tape
Pencil
Step 1: Remove Old Handles
Grab the handle and gently pull it towards you. If it doesn’t budge, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws. Once loose, remove the handle completely.
Step 2: Measure and Mark Hole Placement
Use a measuring tape to determine the center of the hole on the cabinet face. Mark this point with a pencil. If you’re installing new handles, you may need to drill holes.
Step 3: Drill Pilot Holes (If Necessary)
Using a drill bit slightly smaller than the handle screw, drill a pilot hole at the marked location. This will prevent the wood from splitting when you insert the screw.
Step 4: Insert and Tighten Screws
Place the handle over the pilot hole and insert the screws. Tighten the screws securely but not overly, as you don’t want to strip the threads.
Step 5: Align and Reinstall Handles
If you’re replacing old handles, align them with the existing holes and insert the screws. Once all the handles are in place, tighten the screws fully.

Custom cabinet handles allow you to express your creativity. You can choose from a wide array of materials, styles, and finishes to complement your kitchen or bathroom decor.

Use a screwdriver that fits the screw head to minimize damage.
Apply a small amount of wood glue to the screws before installing them for extra stability.
Don’t overtighten the screws, or you risk damaging the handle or cabinet.
